The Sanilac County Development Consortium sponsored the fourth annual Battle of the Books on March 14, 2006 at Brown City Elementary. Participating schools were Brown City, Croswell-Lexington, CPS, Deckerville, Marlette, Peck, and Sandusky.
Battle of the Books is designed to motivate students to read as a free-time activity over a sustained period of time. A special collection of books that reflect both the varied interests and reading abilities of the students. The books were chosen very carefully.
Our fourth, fifth and sixth grade teams were made up of students with the highest amount of AR points by Dec 1, 2005. The students were then given until March 1, 2006 to read eight books from a pre-selected list of books.
This was an excellent activity that fostered cooperation, effort, friendship, and perseverance in our students.
